BREIF HISTORY

I’ve been lifting with Team Jax out of Jacksonville, FL., since 1998. The members of Team Jax are the reason my lifting has continued to mature to the level it is at today. The team is made up of four dedicated core members and several peripheral members. We apply a modified version of the Westside Barbell training program with our own custom flavor of “brutally honest” critique. Brutally honest means that we scrutinize our gym lifts as seriously as our meet lifts, keeping us in the competition mindset all the time. This method has chased away a lot of lifters over the years, but it has made the core stronger.

I have been very fortunate in my lifting career to have lifted with some of the best powerlifters in the world. In 2003, I teamed up with Brian Siders for the 2003 Mountaineer Cup V, where we took second place. Also, in 2004 and 2005, I teamed up with Ed Coan for both Mountaineer Cups, winning the cup in 2004.

After several years of intense training, my dedication to the sport is finally paying off. With bigger totals and higher placings, I am lifting better than ever and plan on improving in the years to come. Below are a few competitive highlights:

  • In June ‘05, I narrowly missed taking first place, in the APF Senior Nationals (198 lb. class), by 5 lbs., my first national meet. At that meet, I broke the APF/WPC* Submaster Squat Records and qualified for the WPO as a middleweight.
  • In May ‘06, I officially moved up to the 220 lb. weight class, competing in the APF Master Nationals. I took first place and Best Lifter, as well as breaking the APF Submaster Deadlift Record and the APF/WPC Submaster Meet Total Records.
  • In June ‘06, I took third place at the APF Senior Nationals, my second meet as a 220. I broke my own APF Deadlift record and APF/WPC Meet Total records.

In December ‘06, I took first place at the APF Southern States, my third meet as a 220. I broke the APF Submaster Squat and Meet Total Records. My squat made me the 4th all-time person to squat over 1000 lbs. in the 220 lb. weight class.

Your groups training detail is by far the best I have heard of. Keeping that competition mentality about you during the training routine clearly shows your impressive numbers. You have to be prepared fro everything!. Great job Joe!
